Student Welfare, Wellbeing and Support Services

MIHE is committed to providing a range of welfare and support services in a variety of modes to all its students, both domestic and international. MIHE provides welfare and support services to all its students right from the start of their education journey with MIHE including the enrolment process.

MIHE also asks all its students during the enrolment process if they require any specific support during their studies. MIHE documents the identified support and is committed to providing them.

Student Welfare Services 


The table below provides a list of welfare services, the relevant MIHE staff member responsible and any external agencies roles. MIHE welfare services are not limited to the list below and if students require services that are not listed below, they should contact the Student Welfare Officer or Administration Staff.

Counselling

MIHE is dedicated to supporting students’ well-being. If you need counseling services, we can help you connect with the right platforms. Contact us at enquiries@mihe.vic.edu.au or call 1300 220 331 for assistance. Your mental health matters to us, and we are here to support you.

Legal Services

While MIHE does not directly provide legal services, we are committed to assisting our students in accessing the appropriate legal support. If you require legal advice or services, we can refer you to qualified legal practitioners who specialise in your area of need. Accomodation

We recommend contacting unilodge.com.au for student accommodations and housing. They can assist you in finding the right accommodation that meets your needs. For any further guidance or assistance, please feel free to reach out to us at enquiries@mihe.vic.edu.au or call 1300 220 331.

Health And Safety

During orientation, we provide information on our Health and Safety Policy and Procedure. In case of an emergency, students are instructed to call 000 and inform MIHE as soon as possible. Additional information can be found in the student handbook.

Facilities And Resources

Details about our facilities and resources can be found in the student handbook. Furthermore, all students will receive a campus tour during their orientation to familiarize themselves with the available facilities.

Visa Conditions

All MIHE students must comply with their visa requirements. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your visa, please reach out to both the Department of Home Affairs and our institution for assistance.

Work

Student Wellbeing and Support Services


Listed below are the wellbeing and support services provided by MIHE to all its students, but not limited to;

Arrival in Australia

MIHE can provide advice and, if possible, assistance to international students with transport on arrival to Australia. International students are provided with information regarding accommodation, arrival procedures and adapting to life in Australia.

Orientation Program

All students must attend an orientation program as part of their first week at MIHE. Students will be informed of the welfare services available throughout the campus, their hours of availability and relevant contact details during the orientation program. Details of this program can also be found in the Student Orientation Policy and Procedure. A signed record of a student’s attendance and participation in the orientation program, in the form of an induction checklist, are kept on a student’s file.

Student Handbook

A Student Handbook is provided to each student in their first week at MIHE outlining current information for students on support services, policies and procedures. The handbook contains the following information, but is not limited to:

  • Services, facilities and resources available to students
  • Visa requirements for international students
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Other relevant information in assisting students to adjust to life and study in Australia

Student Services Support

Students can make enquiries at Reception during office hours or approach members of staff for general enquiries. For student support enquiries, students can be seen by the designated Student Services team member. There are also other staff members available to support students. Their contact details are available at the end of this document and also on MIHE
Website and Course Information Guide.

Academic, Language and Learning Support

MIHE will provide academic, language and learning support to assist students with their academic progress. Students identified as not progressing satisfactorily in their studies should take advantage of MIHE’s academic or English language support.
Students are encouraged to ask their lecturers for help in meeting course requirements.Lecturers are primarily responsible for providing academic support to students. Students are encouraged to seek assistance on academic communications skills, academic integrity and referencing, research skills, content revision and time management and exam preparation.

The Course Director(s)/Dean can also provide advice on general academic issues, timetabling, study skills and learning strategies. The Student Welfare Officer will support lecturers, tutors, the Course Director and Dean in providing additional support and attention to students as required.

Support for Students with Special Needs

If a student self-identifies with a special need, MIHE will assess the student’s needs and Student Welfare Officer will determine what reasonable adjustments can be arranged to assist the student with their study. Special needs support may include (but are not limited to) large print materials, specialised furniture or seating arrangements, extra time for assessments including examinations and oral or sign interpreters.

Support for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Students

MIHE acknowledges the systemic under representation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students in higher education and provides equal opportunity of access, participation and advancement to complete their studies. MIHE will arrange free academic workshops for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students to improve their research skills, academic writing skills, exam preparation and time management skills. Academic staff will also be available to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students for extra support.

Critical Incident Management

A Critical Incidents and Business Continuity Policy and Procedure is implemented by MIHE in order to properly manage, record and follow up on incidents that include but are not limited to:

  • issues such as domestic violence, sexual assault, drug or alcohol abuse;
  • severe verbal or psychological aggression;
  • death, serious injury or any threat of these;
  • missing students, and;
  • natural disaster

How MIHE address student’s informal complaint?

MIHE staff who are not involved in the complaint may support and facilitate an informal resolution if requested by the student, or at their own initiative.
